About Prison Fellowship MinistriesVolunteers from our Association Churches assist in this international ministry to prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families as they become mature, productive, contributing members of community, and of the body of Christ. Three things lie at the core of Prison Fellowship's multifaceted ministry: Deepening our relationship with Christ, taking the Gospel to prisoners, and ministering to prisoners' children.
The Biblically balanced approach seeks to minister to persons in need. We provide mentoring, coordinate community service projects, sponsor Pen Pals, and furnish Bibles, Christmas Cookies, and loving care. All volunteers are fully trained. The Christmas Cookie DriveEach year persons in our member churches bake and bag cookies which are distributed to inmates in the prisons before the Christmas holiday. The target for Sussex County last year was 120,000 cookies. While LRAC is a major contributor, other churches and groups do participate. The cookies are delivered along with New Testaments from the Gideons and packets of necessities from the Salvation Army. GUIDELINES
A commitment to cookies is asked from participants at the Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service. A delivery date in early December is arranged each year, usually to the Lutheran Church of our Savior in Rehoboth Beach. Further details are available from our member churches. TrainingPrison Fellowship Ministries conducts training classes occasionally. These classes are for Christians interested in ministering to those who are incarcerated. You must be at least 18 years of age to take the training. There is no cost to new volunteers. Upon completion of the course, you will a certificate is given as a "Certified Prison Fellowship Volunteer."
